Cialis Promises Longer Weekends

Known popularly in France as le weekend drug, Cialis has been able to make a small, but significant dent in the market for the wonder drug, Viagra. The erectile dysfunction drug manufactured by Eli Lilly was introduced in 2002. Its introduction was the cause of some furious battles between the two pharmaceutical companies, Eli Lilly and Pfizer, the company which manufactures the anti impotence medication that started it all, Viagra.

Cialis is available in the form of yellow almond shaped pills. The main advantage that Cialis has over Viagra is the possibility to take the drug well in advance before you need it. Cialis can be taken 12 hours before you plan to have sex, providing for greater spontaneity in sex. This is unlike Viagra which has to be taken an hour before you have sex, killing any possibility of spontaneity. It gives you a window of at least 12 hours, in which to plan a sexual encounter giving you a freedom that's not matched by Viagra.

Besides, Cialis can be combined with food and drink, unlike Viagra which is recommended to be taken on an empty stomach. This adds to the image of this medication as a party happy medication.

Also, Cialis lasts much longer than Viagra does. With a 24 hour effect timeline, it offers users the opportunity to continue having sex over and over again without the need to take another dose. This is the reason the tablet has earned the sobriquet "le weekend". Compare this to Viagra's efficacy of just over four hours before you need to renew your dosage. The reason for this is that Cialis is eliminated from the body slower than Viagra, enabling it to be in the blood stream for longer and continue its actions.

This long period of action also allows users to have Cialis every second day or so, to allow them to maintain a reasonable amount of the medication in the body to avoid the possibility of any embarrassing failure to have an erection. However, this should not be considered without taking the advice of your physician. Even if you're a healthy male with no sign of diabetes or hypertension, you’re still advised to seek medical opinion before making Cialis a regular medication.

As with Viagra, Cialis has a few side effects. At least 14 percent of people who take it experience headaches while 9 per cent complain of heartburn. Like Viagra, Cialis is not recommended for use in people who are already suffering from some form of cardiovascular disease like hypertension, diabetes, and cardiac disease.

But it also takes away many of the side effects that are commonly associated with Viagra, like the flushing of the face that happens after the blue pill is taken.

In fact, when Cialis was first introduced, Pfizer tried desperately to block the sale of the drug in the US, although a similar action was defeated in Europe. However, the worldwide anti impotence medication industry is believed to run into the billions of dollars, and any dent that Cialis has caused in Viagra's share will still leave Pfizer with the lion’s share of profits.
