Coping with Erectile Dysfunction
There are things that are difficult to admit especially if they are personal because they can deal a very shameful blow to a person’s ego. In the case of men, nothing can be more personal and destructive than knowing that one is affected by erectile dysfunction. Sometimes this blow is so crushing that it causes some to lose their wits and go reckless, cursing the heavens why he had to suffer such.
Learning to Adjust
While some may chose to wallow in their misfortunes, others opt to do something about it to improve their condition. You need not be miserable as others choose to be. Here are some of the things that can be done when you have been diagnosed with erectile dysfunction:
- Talk to your doctor. Often a doctor will run some laboratory tests to determine if indeed you have ED and to determine the extent of your problem. This is very important because this is where mere suspicion is whetted out from the real condition. In choosing the doctor, it is best to first do some research on a doctor's background, especially on expertise.
- But what if you cannot bring yourself to talk to a doctor? Are there other ways? Well, there are erection-enhancing drugs that can be taken. They have been proven to be effective and have passed laboratory testing and are now available for general use. Perhaps the most common example is Viagra.
- There are some herbal remedies that are thought by many to be good for erectile dysfunction. The problem is that no one is too sure whether they are really good. So while some may tell you to try this or that, it is still best to ask for advice from a health expert.
- Some cases of erectile dysfunction are caused by an underlying medical ailment. The successful treatment of erectile dysfunction is hinged on the success of treating the underlying medical condition. For example, diabetes and heart ailments are common causes of erectile dysfunction and their treatment is tied to the treatment of the erectile dysfunction.
- On the other hand, some cases of erectile dysfunction are a result of taking medications that causes dysfunction as a side effect.
Psychotherapy at Work
While some men may be ashamed of their condition, it is undeniable that having the courage to talk and being open about having the condition is the first step toward successfully coping with erectile dysfunction. This is where psychotherapy counts. This is essentially counseling that is designed to improve a person’s outlook despite the condition, and this is usually administered by a psychologist. While it does not treat the condition directly, it is considered to be even more powerful than medications. This is because with psychotherapy, the man is made to feel better with an improved outlook about his health condition and taught not to wallow on one’s misfortunes.
