Generic Levitra is an Answer to Erectile Dysfunction
Viagra, when it was introduced in 1998 as a possible solution to impotence, swept the market and became a household name. Until then, men who suffered from erectile dysfunction had few answers to their embarrassing condition. Most did not seek help for their condition, because of the humiliation involved in talking to a doctor about such personal matters. The few, who did muster the courage to talk to their physician, had very few quick, safe and effective remedies for their condition.
Viagra was initially researched as a heart disease medication, when scientists realized that the medication had a side effect that resulted in increased blood flow to the penile region, and the creation and sustenance of an erection. Millions of men found a new lease of life. Soon after, Levitra was introduced in the market as a possible alternative to Viagra.
Levitra contained Vardenafil, a PDE5 inhibitor and was introduced by Bayer Pharmaceuticals in 2002. The enzyme phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE-5), is the one that's responsible for interfering with the blood flow to the penis. How Vardenafil works is to release nitric acid in the region. The nitric acid works to relax the muscles, and the arteries open up. Blood supply is boosted, and the penis begins to fill with blood, thus leading to an erection. After the erection is attained, Vardenafil allows the erection to remain for the length of the intercourse.
As a medication for erectile dysfunction, Levitra belongs to the same class of drugs as other anti impotence drugs, Cialis and Viagra. They work in much the same manner to boost blood supply to the penile region. Levitra has been pushed as an alternative to Viagra in men in whom Viagra doesn't work. Some men report that Viagra isn't as effective after it is taken for a long period of time. Also, Viagra tends to take up to an hour to work. Levitra on the other hand, begins to show effect within 20 minutes after ingestion. This has placed Levitra at an advantage as compared to Viagra. Like Viagra, Levitra doesn't work on its own – sexual stimulation has to begin before there is an erection.
Generic versions of Levitra have now entered the market, offering impotence sufferers a solution to their problem at a fraction of the price of branded Levitra. These versions contain Vardenafil that is manufactured under strict manufacturer's standards in FDA approved facilities. The lack of advertising and promotions allow companies to price these medications cheaper than the branded Levitra.
Like Viagra, however, Levitra isn't for everyone. This section of drugs helps deal with impotence by acting as a phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitor. These drugs are not recommended in patients who suffer from heart disease, low blood pressure or angina. They are also not recommended for use in people who are on medication to treat prostate enlargement. The drug interactions can lead to a dip in blood pressure that can be fatal.
For a healthy adult, Levitra can be a safe and excellent alternative to Viagra. Millions of men are using it with effective results. Erectile dysfunction has a number of treatment options- oral medication, vacuum therapy, injections as well as surgery. It might not have become the household name that Viagra is, but Levitra does provide sufferers just one more option from a wide range to choose from.
