6 Warning Signs of Menopause in Men
When we hear the term menopause, we readily associate it with women. Not true. Doctors have long revealed that just like their female counterpart, men can also suffer from that point of their lives when their ability to conceive goes down or sometimes even become nil. While the term male menopause is usually used, the more appropriate term for the condition is "andropause". This is the time in the life of a man when hormone production for his reproductive capacity is not translated into sexual fervor, rendering him unable to conceive.
Knowing the Signs
Worried if you're suffering from andropause? Here are the six signs to watch out for if you have the condition:
- No erection when waking up in the morning. Erection is directly associated with testosterone production, the hormone responsible for men being able to impregnate women. It is also the hormone that is associated with sexual drive, so if it is absent, the capacity to conceive is taken out. So how come morning erection got into the picture? It is because testosterone is usually produced when a man is asleep. According to studies, the peak production time is between 2 to 4 in the morning. Naturally, when a man wakes up a few hours later, he would have an erection. Its absence is a telltale sign of suffering from male menopause.
- Shrinking penis size and less frequent erection. Now some men might protest over this. I actually hear them say: "What has penis size got to do with male menopause?" Doctors say that the size of the penis is directly influenced by the amount of testosterone produced. Another influencing factor is the frequency of erection. Again, this is directly linked to testosterone production because you cannot attain erection if you do not have sufficient testosterone levels. So if you have less frequent erection and you notice that your penis is no longer satisfying for your partner as before, it may be time to have yourself examined.
- Loss of mental drive. While the penis is the sex organ for men, the main sex organ for both sexes is the brain. If a man is experiencing lower mental drive, then it is a sign that the brain is not producing enough amount of testosterone. This is because testosterone is the anti-depressant hormone that helps keep a man going like that Energizer bunny.
- Lowered volume of ejaculation. This is one of the most tangible sign of a lowered testosterone production. The more testosterone produced, the more ejaculate there will be. So if you noticed that your output has been decreasing in number, it's worth a visit to your doctor.
- Lower frequency of pleasurable orgasms. The ability to attain orgasm is not just simple climax: it is also related to the amount of testosterone you have produced. Low testosterone levels can lead to less frequent orgasms and less pleasurable at that.
- If a man takes longer to recover from injury or sickness, it is a sign that he is suffering from male menopause. This is because the testosterone level influences a man’s confidence on his chances of recovery; with lower testosterone, recovery is an uphill climb.
