Unusual Uses for Viagra
The erectile dysfunction miracle drug has been a boon to millions of men world wide. But did you know that there is more than one use for Viagra?
The Israeli air force is considering giving Viagra to its fighter pilots to help them enhance their performance at higher attitudes. According to a study conducted recently by Israeli doctors in Africa, there is a link between medications used to treat erectile dysfunction, and enhanced performance at extreme heights. The study that was conducted on mountain climbers showed that an active ingredient in common ED drugs helps climbers boost their performance in a hostile environment with a shortage of oxygen. High attitudes tend to cause dizziness and fatigue, and the study found that tadalafil which is the active ingredient present in Cialis, an anti ED medication just like Viagra aided the mountain climbers to keep away dizziness and fatigue at this increased height.
This is the same ingredient that helps increase blood flow to the penile region in men who suffer from erectile dysfunction.
According to an Israeli military magazine, these findings are leading military doctors to consider giving combat pilots the same medication. These fighter pilots frequently fly at altitudes of up to 50,000 feet. According to army medical sources, these anti impotence medications are ideal to be used in high altitude conditions. Whenever there is a shortfall of oxygen, high blood pressure can develop in the lungs. Anti ED medications help control the situation, and could possibly enable fighter pilots to perform better in such conditions.
The Israeli army plans to continue conducting more tests to further establish the relationship between anti impotence medications and their effects on low oxygen conditions.
In another instance of the unusual use of Viagra, the popular anti impotence medication is being used to treat pulmonary hypertension in a two year old boy. The condition is a rare one, and causes chronic high blood pressure. The boy Oliver Sherwood has been prescribed Viagra to treat this chronic condition. The medication helps to boost blood flow, and is therefore, used in adult men to enhance sexual performance. In Oliver's case however, the improved blood flow helps to open up the capillaries and veins to boost circulation.
According to Oliver's mother, Viagra is an expensive medication, but as far as treatments for pulmonary hypertension go, it is actually one of the cheapest. The dose is not as high as the one that has erection boosting effects in male adults, and for now, the family is hoping that this unusual treatment continues to work as well as it is doing now for the rest of Oliver’s life.
So far, we've heard of human beings finding extraordinary uses for Viagra. Now, there's news that our animal friends too are seeing the benefits of this medication. A 3 year old dog in London who had a heart condition has been prescribed Viagra by her vet. The border collie initially developed a lung infection that soon lead to heart problems. Whenever he got excited, his heart was unable to pump blood quickly enough with the result that he would become unconscious. Now on medication with Viagra, the Collie named Talisker is free of symptoms, and is back to his active life.
