What is Levitra?

Levitra is a new oral treatment for managing erectile dysfunction (ED). Similar to Viagra®, it is a PDE-5 inhibitor. Generic Levitra is not a hormone or, aphrodisiac. It is not a permanent heal for erectile dysfunction and does not safeguard against sexually transmitted diseases. It does not increase libido (sexual drive). Generic Levitra is manufactured by those other than the original patent holder and as such are less expensive.

How does Levitra work?

Generic Levitra works by helping relax blood vessels found in the penis. It allows blood to flow into the penis thus consequently creating the perfect situation for an erection. The effects of Generic Levitra can last for four to five hours. Generic Levitra helps increase blood flow to the penis, so it may help men with ED get and keep an erection that lasts adequately so that the person concerned can complete the act of sex. When a man has completed sexual activity, blood flow to his penis should reduce and the erection should go away.

Once you consume the medication, you will not experience an erection of your own accord but will need sexual stimulation to bring it on. Generic Levitra will not make you want to have sex all the time. It will not initiate an instant erection. You need to be sexually excited for it to take effect and it will not leave you erect for hours. It works for many men with a broad range of conditions, including high cholesterol.

How to Take Levitra?

Take it about an hour before sex. You can start engaging in sexual activity before the hour is over.

Generic Levitra may be taken with or without food.

It has to be taken orally no more than once a day.

Side effects of Levitra

As per clinical studies and approaches the most common adverse effects linked with Generic Levitra are mild to moderate:

• Headache.
• Flushing.
• Rhinitis (nasal congestion).
• Myalgia (muscle pain).
• Dyspepsia (upset stomach following meals).
• Back pain.

The occurrence of side effects is known to be reduced with lower doses.

Levitra could uncommonly cause:

• An erection that won't go away (priapism). If an erection lasts more than four hours, get medical help right away. Priapism needs to be treated as soon as possible or it could cause permanent damage to your penis, including total inability to have erections.
• Vision changes, experiencing a blue tinge to objects or experiencing difficulty identifying between the colors blue and green.
• Men taking PDE5 inhibitors may report a sudden decrease or loss of vision in one or both eyes.
• Sudden loss or decrease in hearing, accompanied with dizziness.

It's not certain if the above conditions are related directly to these medicines or to factors like high blood pressure or diabetes, or to a combination. If you experience any of these symptoms, call a doctor right away.

What should I discuss with my doctor before taking Levitra?

• For patients with any medical ailments, consult your physician regarding Generic Levitra interaction with other medications you may be taking.
• Discuss any known sensitivity or allergy to any component of Levitra.
• Discuss your medical conditions, including heart problems, and medications.
• Talk about alpha blockers prescribed for prostate problems or high blood pressure.
• Before taking Levitra, tell your doctor if you currently have or have ever had a heart attack, stroke, irregular heartbeats, angina (chest pain), or congestive heart failure; high or low blood pressure.
• Report any personal or family history of a rare heart condition known as prolongation of the QT interval (long QT syndrome).
• Liver problems or kidney problems.
• Blood problems, including sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, or leukemia.
• Bleeding or blood clotting disorder.
• Stomach ulcer.
• Family history of degenerative eye disease (e.g., retinitis pigmentosa).
• Physical deformity of the penis such as Peyronie's disease.

Your doctor decides if sexual activity poses a health risk for you. Levitra is not recommended for men with uncontrolled high blood pressure.

What should I avoid while taking Levitra?

• Avoid any form of medication known as "nitrates." This is a type of medicine used to relieve chest pain that can occur as a result of heart disease.
• Avoid recreational drugs called "poppers" like amyl nitrate or butyl nitrate.
• Taking Levitra in combination with nitrates like nitroglycerin, isosorbide mononitrate, and isosorbide dinitrate could cause serious side effects.
• Do not use it as a male form of birth control.
• Generic Levitra is not for women or children.
